Description

Discuss cultural differences in sensory hierarchies.

Exercise

Change sense and sensory organ:

“I know it is true because I heard it with my own ears.”

“I know it is true because I touched it with my own skin.  I felt it with my own fingers.”

“I know it is true because I smelled it with my own nose.”

“I know it is true because I tasted it with my own tongue.”

“I know it is true because I sensed my late grandmother’s presence in the room.”

“I know it is true because my belly clenched.”

“I know it is true because shivers ran down my spine.”

Adaptation

Invite students to offer linguistic and other examples of relationship between sensation and valid knowledge in other cultures they are familiar with.
