Smellscape

Description
Introduce cultural/historical/
political production and reception of odours and aromas. For example, perfume.
Exercise
Invite students to recall and/or imagine odours/aromas/smells they experience in the classroom: who/what created these smells through what activities?
Break into pairs: A is speaker and B is self/listener. Reverse. Repeat this exercise using words, images, movement, sounds.
Adaptation
Independent assignment: Create a smellscape, and bring to class. Discuss intentions and associations, and how communicated and received by others.
